Yuzu Lemon
Yuzu is a Japanese citrus prized for its fragrance. The small, knobbly fruit has little flesh, but its zest and juice have a floral, lemon and mandarin aroma that chefs love. It is used in ponzu, dressings, desserts and drinks, and it is expensive to buy, so it is well worth growing.
Yuzu is one of the most cold hardy citrus and grows into a thorny, upright tree. Fruit ripens in autumn and winter, turning from green to yellow. Plant in full sun with soil that drains well, water regularly and feed with a citrus fertiliser in spring and late summer. It also grows well in a large pot.
