Carters Red Pummelo

Pummelos are the largest of all citrus and one of the parents of the grapefruit. Carters Red has pink to red flesh that is sweet and mild, without the bitterness of a grapefruit. The thick rind peels away to leave firm, juicy segments that are lovely fresh or in a Thai style salad.

Pummelos love warmth and grow well in coastal northern NSW. Give the tree full sun, a sheltered spot and soil that drains well, with deep watering and regular citrus fertiliser. They make a larger tree than most citrus, so allow room or prune to shape. Fruit ripens through the cooler months.
