Tangelo
The tangelo is a cross between a mandarin and a grapefruit, and it takes the best of both. The fruit is very juicy, with a sweet, tangy flavour, and it is easy to peel. Many have a little knob at the stem end, which makes them easy to spot. They are great to eat fresh and make a lovely juice.
Fruit ripens through winter and into spring. Plant in full sun with soil that drains well, water deeply through dry spells and feed with a citrus fertiliser in spring and late summer. Tangelos often crop better with another citrus, such as a mandarin, growing nearby.
