Nagami Kumquat
The Nagami is the oval kumquat. You eat the fruit whole: the skin is sweet and the flesh is tart, so each bite is sweet and sour at once. Kumquats also make excellent marmalade and are lovely preserved in syrup.
It is a small, compact tree with dense foliage, ideal for a pot, a courtyard or a hedge, and it is covered in bright orange fruit through winter and spring. Kumquats are among the hardiest citrus and cope well with cold. Plant in full sun with soil that drains well, water regularly and feed with a citrus fertiliser.
