Grumichama
Grumichama (Eugenia brasiliensis) is a small tree from Brazil with fruit that looks and tastes like a sweet, dark cherry. The fruit ripens to deep purple or black and is best eaten straight off the tree. It ripens quickly after flowering, so the crop comes on fast in late spring and early summer.
The tree is slow growing and tidy, with glossy, dark green leaves, so it works as an ornamental as well as a fruit tree. Plant it in full sun or part shade with rich soil that drains well, and keep it watered through dry periods. Established trees cope with light frosts.
